Dr. Curt Scarborough

Founder and Chancellor

Dr. Curt Scarborough, founder and Chancellor of the Pillsbury College & Seminary, was born in Benton, Illinois in 1935. The son of a coal miner, he is an alumnus of Southern Illinois University, and he earned his professional degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds several other graduate and post-graduate degrees, including the D.Min., C.Ed.D., C.Psy.D., D.Appl.Chr., a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Columbia Pacific University and a ThD from Phoenix University of Theology. He also has been presented four honorary doctorates: Litt.D., S.T.D., and two D.D. degrees.

Dr. Curt was appointed Chancellor of Pillsbury College & Seminary in 2008, a position he continues to hold. He also is the founder and president of AICCS: Association for Independent Christian Colleges and Seminaries, an accrediting agency with a current membership of over 300 schools from 27 states in the USA and in 39 other nations.

After 21 years as a minister in Baptist churches in Illinois, Texas, and Missouri, Dr. Curt joined FreeWay Foundation as Vice President and Director of Education in 1975. He was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer in 1983 and semi-retired in 2007 after 32 years of service. Under his leadership, FreeWay Foundation in 1991 launched Pillsbury-Scarborough Bible College & Seminary, “The distance learning graduate school with the personal touch”.

Additionally, Dr. Curt has served in many civic and volunteer roles, including as executive director of the American Council on Alcohol Problems for eleven years. He has authored more than 100 books, including “Personal & Practical”, the 5-volume devotional commentary on all 1,189 chapters of the Old and New Testaments, which serve as the textbooks used in Pillsbury-Scarborough’s Biblical Studies track. Hundreds of his essays, feature articles, devotional meditations, and short stories have been published in national monthly magazines and religious journals. His latest book, “Guidebook for Non-Traditional Schools of Christian Ministry” was published in 2016.

Curt and his wife, Roni, make their home in St. Charles, Missouri. They are the proud parents of three married children and nine grandchildren.
